
IECRC Courses and Seminars for the Medical Community
IECRC is actively developing a set of courses and seminars geared to foster understanding and good will between the Muslim Community in the United States and the general American community. The goal of this project is to enable Hospitals, Hopice Care Facilities, Covalescence Homes, Nursing Homes, Phsychiatric Hospitals, and the General Medical Community in the United States to better interact with and understand the needs of Muslim patients. Schools, Colleges, and Universities may also request sessions, which are available on instructor availability basis.

Hospice Care for the Muslim Patient: Social Concerns, Beliefs, Traditions
Course Duration: 1.5 Hours

Course Description:
Hospice care facilities and hospitals are wondering why is it that Muslims hardly ever seek hospice care. This 1.5 hour course is geared towards hospice care workers and nurses, administrators, medical physicians, and any other related care givers to answer some vital and burning questions related to death and dying, and caring for the Muslim patient in general. The course introduces learners to the Islamic faith, practices, and traditions. It covers the aspects of privacy needs, prayer needs, the traditional Muslim family structure, challenges for hospice care, death and its philosophy in Islam, funeral and burial rites, spiritual healing, and many other aspects that will enable care-givers to better care for the needs of the Muslim patient.

Caring for the Muslim Patient - Spiritual Considerations and Cultural Sensitivity

Course Description:
This engaging 1-hour course is geared towards care-givers in general including medical physicians, nurses, and any other related care-givers and administrators to answer some vital questions about caring for the Muslim patient. The first part of this course introduces learners to the Islamic view of illness and faith as part of healing with two scenarios presented to show the efficacy of Islamic spiritual counseling and healing. The second part of this course includes role-play scenarios between care-givers and Muslim patients to engage the audience with real-life situations. It addresses privacy purification, and prayer needs. The Islamic view of treating patients of the opposite sex are also discussed. The final part of this course includes a Question and Answer session.
