The Tradition of Urs

The word "Urs" is derived from the same root that "Uroos" (bride) is derived, and is losely translated as the "death" (for lack of a better word) anniversary of those chosen and pious personalities in Islam. The celebration Urs marks the occasion when the pious ones having spent their lives in fear and and hope of their Creator, but always remembered for their intense love for God, are finally united with their Creator. The saints and pious souls are matephorically likened to the brides of God in that respect. Although the passing from this material world of a pious personality is a sad occasion for humanity, which physically loses a great human being, it is in fact a joyous occasion the one who is forever united with his or her Lord.

In the spirit of remembering the lives and contributions of the great luminaries of the Islamic
tradition, for the purpose of being inspired by them, and for sending Isaal-e-Sawaab to their
blessed souls as a token of gratitude, IECRC has listed the dates according to the Islamic Calendar for when these blessed personalities were taken into the Real of Divine Reality. The IECRC has also been producing brief documents such as the ones linked below so we can learn about these great individuals and how they impacted those around them and continue to do so to this day. The inspiration gained from such information is the impetus for rectifying our actions, God Willing, and a catalyst for each one of us to attempt to follow in the footsteps of these shining stars. It is when we strengthen our connection with our past, that our hope for the future can be brightened.
